Original Two Prong Power Cord
« on: July 20, 2017, 08:43:26 am »
Hey guys, Posted this over at another site... but wanted to check here too.

I'm looking for a original Sunn 2 prong power cord from around 68-70. Currently the amp has an updated plug but the new owner will be using this in a museum type setting and he's interested in keeping it as original as possible. Anyone have one around in great shape that they are willing to part with?

If so send a message or email me at: news73@yahoo.com and we can work out the details. Thanks!!!

Several of my old Sunns have two-prong cords. At least one has had the plug replaced, though. Let me look around and see what I have.

Depending on when it was made, it may have come with the 3 wire power cord from the factory also.

Hey Greg, it's a late 60's amp. Relatively certain these came with a 2 prong.

My early 2000S without bass boost switch is likely from early 1968 and it has a 3 wire cord from the factory as far as I can tell. If you want I can see if Conrad recalls when the change was made?

I've got a 6/22/71 dated 200S with a two prong, as did my '72 2000S and '68 200S before their conversion to three prong. Wouldn't any amp with a functioning Polarity switch have to be a two prong?

When the manufacturers switched to the 3 wire system with a dedicated ground to the chassis, some still included a death cap and a ground switch and had things wired incorrectly. Nothing would really surprise me about it. I'll see what Conrad has to say and if he remembers anything about it, but he is very busy right now so it may be a bit before I am able to give any information on that. My 2000S looks original with the 3 wire plug but it could have been changed after it was made and someone just did a very nice job too.

The original '66 smiley face amps didn't have a ground switch or a 'Death cap'. You probably got a mild shock no mater what you touched. Conrad probably had to deal with that issue.

My Model T, one of the first 2G models (doesn't have red knobs!) has a 3-prong plug and a polarity switch. It was made around 1976, I think.

did you find one yet? I have a Sonaro that I've been meaning to put a three-prong cord on (shocks me onstage!) but I haven't got around to it. If you're still looking, that would likely get me off my ass and do it.
